Joining Small Wonders

Settling you child into a new Early Childhood environment can be an exciting, but sometimes daunting time for parents and children.  Our aim is to do everything we can to make this process as easy and enjoyable as possible. We invite whanau to spend time visiting up to three weeks (this may be longer for some whanau) visiting our Centre at varying times to get to know the kaiako, tamariki, and our spaces at Small Wonders Childcare. This ensures a sense of trust is built between whanau Centre, and the children begin to form relationships with all kaiako. Your key Kaiako will be in touch.  We have a ‘getting to know me form” that we ask is filled in closer to the starting date with any information that may help kaiako get to know your tamaiti.

We have a primary caregiver or key kaiako system for infants and toddlers and children develop strong attachments with their teachers. Our aim is for the primary carer to be available for all prime caregiving routines, e.g. sleep, bottles, feeding etc. For our younger children we offer a small daily notebook to record events and we will discuss this with all whanau.
